The good folks at Tom’s Hardware are lending credibility to the Antutu benchmarks of a K1 powered NVIDIA Shield 2 (link). It is not surprising that the NVIDIA Shield would be one of the first platforms to contain the newest NVIDIA Tegra chip.
The claimed specs for the Shield-2 appear reasonable:
- A screen resolution of 1440 x 810, 4 GB of RAM
- 16 GB of internal storage
- A 0.3MP camera
- Android 4.4.2 “KitKat”
Developers should start brushing up on Renderscript to leverage early access to this gaming hardware.
It will be interesting to see if NVIDIA will include a Jetson SDK and software stack that includes the CUDA Toolkit, OpenGL 4.4 drivers, and the NVIDIA VisionWorks Toolkit.
Either that, or we will see linux on Shield 2:
For those who are not faint of heart, check out the “Root for NVIDIA SHIELD & Tegra Note 7” github repository: (link).
So, buy a Jetson or root a Shield 2 … ?
