The ArrayFire GPU accelerated library software has made news by announcing they are moving to open source.
Right now only the wrappers and examples that will bring more customers are currently open source. A business-savvy first move.
Specifically, the ArrayFire website states, ” … it’s neither simple nor straightforward to take a closed software Open Source. Earlier this year, we decided to take the first step and Open Source all of the ArrayFire library’s tertiary projects. This includes all of our ArrayFire library’s language wrappers, examples, and source code used for our blog posts.”
The Website is specific that the following projects are on GitHub:
- FORTRAN wrapper for ArrayFire
- R wrapper for ArrayFire
- JAVA wrapper for ArrayFire
- All ArrayFire examples
- Using OpenGL with CUDA and ArrayFire
- Deploying CUDA on the cloud
The thought-process at ArrayFire is to leverage the network effects of open source software, which has been illustrated with a fictional story on avc.com.
We look forward to seeing the library code itself being available in a buildable form.
